Cape Town born Gordon Williams’ paintings are a unique combination of Expressionism and Impressionism. In 2012 he left his life of woodwork and plumbing to focus full time on his main passion, painting. His medium is mainly acrylic on canvas or charcoal on paper. Gordon works from his self-built home & studio in Riebeek Kasteel or en plein air in the rugged landscape of the Swartland region.
His forays into landscape painting moved onto depicting colourful bold & vivid still life arrangements in domestic settings, often of his making. He works with just the three primary colours so the vibrancy of flowers inspire and challenge his colour mixing skills, resulting in paintings that burst with colour and bright busy brush strokes.
Gordon’s artistic talent is largely self-taught but was initially nurtured under Henry Symonds at Rondebosch High School. To date he has had seven solo exhibitions and been included in a further eight group exhibitions. His work is part of the Spier Arts Collection, hangs in the Belmont Mount Nelson Hotel and, among his many fans and collectors, is international renowned local author, Jacques Pauw.
